DENVER, March 22, 2010 – For the second consecutive year CH2M HILL, a global full-service consulting, design, construction, and operations firm, has been selected by Ethisphere Institute as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies. The fourth annual list highlights 100 organizations that lead the way in promoting ethical business standards.
“The competition for the World’s Most Ethical Companies was the strongest it has ever been, with a record number of organizations vying for this distinguished honor,” said Alex Brigham, Executive Director of the Ethisphere Institute. “This year’s group recognizes the important role ethics play in brand reputation, which ultimately is the most valuable asset for a corporation. There is a strong correlation between a company’s ethics program and its performance. This proves that having a commitment to ethics is a competitive advantage and is imperative to business.”
Lee McIntire, CH2M HILL Chairman and CEO said, “Receiving this honor is truly a marketplace differentiator, and it reflects the dedication of employees, at all levels of our organization, to conduct business in the most ethical manner, and to care about the communities we serve. Treating each other with civility and our multi-culture diversity is big part of this. I couldn’t be more proud.”
As employee-owners and members of the communities where the firm works, CH2M HILL employees embrace all elements of corporate citizenship. Environmental, social, and economic sustainability best practices are included as integral approaches in project delivery. Each year the firm sets more ambitious goals for reducing its internal environmental footprint through a rigorous Environmental Management System. In 2009, CH2M HILL contributed $3.7 million to benefit global communities.
All employees reaffirm their commitment to uphold the firm’s business conduct policy through an annual re-signing process. Regular communications about ethics are shared with employees through monthly articles on the company’s online news channels, CEO blog, throughout the intranet, memos, e-mails from leadership, and face-to-face discussions. New programs introduced in 2009 to further the firm’s commitment to ethical behavior include:
According to Ethisphere, strong ethics programs leads to improved financial performance, increased consumer loyalty, regulatory leniency in the event of a transgression and stronger employee retention rates.
Through in-depth research and a multi-step analysis, Ethisphere reviewed nominations from companies in more than 100 countries and 36 industries. The methodology includes reviewing codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction histories; evaluating the investment in innovation and sustainable business practices; looking at activities designed to improve corporate citizenship; and studying nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers.
